About Southampton

SOUTHAMPTON IS SPECTACULAR!

The Village of Southampton, the First English Settlement in New York State, was settled in 1640 and incorporated in 1898.

Southampton is located about 90 miles east of Manhattan near the eastern end of Long Island. When you first enter the Village, you know you’ve found something special. The majestic tree-lined streets, great shops, museums and cultural center, the Number One Best Ocean Beach in America, and four Historic districts with over 400 contributing historic buildings all make Southampton Village really spectacular.

Southampton Village is a home and a destination. Some of the members of the Forbes 400 — our nation’s wealthiest — own homes here. In fact, Forbes did a feature of one street in particular, Meadow Lane, where a dozen billionaires own homes.  To view the June 10, 2013 article, click here, Sand Castles.

Visitors include Vice President Biden, Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, and the Secret Service.

A recent survey of the fabulous shops in and around Jobs Lane and Main Street found 51 clothiers, 20 shops for children, five bakeries, and eight antique shops, to name a few — far more than what one would find in any ten blocks on Madison Avenue in New York City.

Add to this great restaurants — many with outside dining — great schools, houses of worship, health and safety support, fabulous parks and recreation, and friendly people and you have a world-class community. Welcome to Southampton Village!
