SOUTHAMPTON VILLAGE & SOUTHAMPTON TOWN
When talking about Southampton it is important to clarify whether you mean the Village of Southampton or the Town of Southampton. Southampton Village is a small oceanfront community within the Township of Southampton. Southampton Village comprises 6.8 square miles, less than 5% of Southampton Town's 140.2 square miles and is only one of seven incorporated villages within the town. Southampton Town is one of ten Townships within Suffolk County. The area of Suffolk County comprises 900 square miles.
Knowing the difference between Southampton Village and Southampton Town becomes especially important when you require building or beach permits, or police or highway department services, to name a few, as there are two separate governments, both with offices within Southampton Village. Southampton Village Hall is located at 23 Main Street. Southampton Town Hall is located at 116 Hampton Road.
