HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE

Homeowners Insurance Information For Consumers - For most of us our home is our most valuable financial asset, but it’s also a vulnerable asset.  A windstorm can blow your roof off, a burglar can steal your home entertainment system, or a neighbor could trip and fall on your front step.  To provide protection from the financial risks associated with these potential disasters, most New Yorkers purchase a homeowners multi-peril policy.  A homeowners policy wraps a number of coverages-- fire, windstorm, theft, liability into one convenient package.

This information prepared by the Insurance Department of the State of New York is designed to help homeowners choose the right coverage, the right company, and the right price. The Homeowners Insurance Resource Center will familiarize you with basic homeowners’ terms, describe the major policies that are available, and provide important shopping tips.

Consumer Shopping Guide - a PDF formated consumer guide for homeowners and tenants insurance prepared by the Insurance Department of the State of New York.  This guide offers descriptions of the types of basic policies that insurance companies offer.  Consumers will also find recommendations for how much coverage to purchase, how to save money, and what additional products are offered on top of the basic policies.  Sample premiums for the major insurance companies are listed to help consmers make meaningful price comparisons.

FLOOD INSURANCE

Like all other seaside communities, Southampton Village  has been subject to major storms.  Updated and accurate risk information is important for homeowners to consider.  Homeowners in a floodplain cannot get a mortgage without flood insurance, which is underwritten by the federal government and available at set rates from any insurance broker.  Recently the Federal Government (FEMA) released revised flood maps.  These interactive maps are in advanced detail that actually show streets and specific buildings.
